A Pop of Color in the Desert

I shared this on my instagram recently, but I figured I would share it on the blog as well.

“Be a fruit loop in a world full of Cheerios”
~Gary Ryan Blair

No shade to Cheerios. I love them, but this quote really hit home for me. For the longest time I let fear of being seen, standing out, and taking up space keep me from being myself, going for big goals, wearing and looking how I really wanted to. I chose not to wear what made me happy because people might judge me. I chose not to wear my hair natural because it looked “messy” and “unkempt” to others. I chose to tell myself I wasn’t good enough to do or accomplish the dreams I had/have.

Somewhere along the way, within my weight loss journey, turned confidence journey, I stopped getting in my own way. I started feeling good about myself. Looking in the mirror and telling myself I was good enough. Stopping myself from saying something self deprecating and instead complimenting my hair, my body, my face. Yes. I know. That sounds vein, but I know so many people who need to stop and do the same thing. I started feeling real confidence that didn’t hold me back.

I bought this perfect rainbow dress from Anthropologie, because I finally felt confident enough to say. “That will look great on me and I can’t wait to wear it.” I never used to be that girl/woman, but now I am; and guess what? That rainbow dress does look great on me! I bet it would look amazing on you too!

When we learn to love ourselves (sounds cheesy, but it’s true), then we actually allow ourselves to go for our dreams, love our bodies, be nicer humans, and be that bright fruit loop in a world of Cheerios!

So, go ahead. Buy the outfit, wear the fun hairstyle, be loud, take up space, and love every minute of it!
